So this is a random blog of my randomness. Is that a good way to say that???
Okay so here are my current thoughts... I have officially gone now for 4 weeks without turning on a television. Now this does not mean that I have not watched television, Tyler still watches it every evening so I have been known to sit down and watch with him while I'm folding clothes. I see what he's watching every night when I am playing with Ben in the living room, but I have not actually turned it on myself in 4 weeks.
This is actually a huge accomplishment from the girl who slept with the TV on, who watched TV while reading a book, I mean it was an all consuming thing for me.
Anyway, I digress...
So I have gone for 4 weeks with no television for me personally. What have I done to fill the time you ask...
Well for one my blog has more posts than it's had in history. It's a good easy thing to do while passing a lunch hour at home or waiting to go to bed at night.
For two I actually find more time to keep house, something I struggle with constantly (just ask my friend who I would pay to clean it for me!!) It just piles up and eventually I am so discouraged because now what would have been maybe a daily chore of 20 minutes has become a HUGE full day exercise that I just hate doing... Anyway now I do a little laundry here, a few dishes there... maybe mop the floor on Saturday, next Saturday dust, and surprisingly it hasn't had to have a marathon cleaning in a while...
Third, I find it less of an effort to get up and play with Ben or to go play in his room instead of the living room. While I would and always will put him ahead of any television program, it seems like my attitude about it is better. I would say that he also gets more focused attention. I'm not watching TV while feeding him his bottle, I'm talking to him... does that make sense?
And fourth, most shockingly... I have been more consistant with reading my Bible! (insert huge awe filled Gasp here) I have never, I mean NEVER been one who can consistantly stand behind personal Bible Time. I always said I never have any time to commit to daily reading, I don't have the energy to get up earlier in the morning, I have too much to do during the day, blah blah blah more random excuses... Anyway so I cut out just a little bit of television time, and voila, more time to devote to other things, other more important things I might add.
I have also found that even though I would multi task and do things while watching TV, it doesn't take nearly as long to do without the added attention grabber. Well there is a converted television addicts plug for less TV...
Here's a question... Do you let your kids watch kid appropriate TV?? Any thoughts??
Okay well this was a random post of randomness by Amanda... If anyone reads it I hope they enjoyed.
